Common Questions

Where are Pilates North Classes located?
There is only one Pilates North® in Canada. While we do train off-site and virtually, our home studio is located at 6 Scott Drive Unit 201, Richmond Hill, Ontario (just north of Hwy 7 off Yonge Street)

Should I come to Pilates Classes once a week or twice a week?
This is a personal decision. It depends on your needs and motivations. The once a week class is great for people who are looking to get involved with the studio but are limited with time. The twice a week Pilates Mat and Reformer classes allow for a more immersive experience and allows you to “quick start” your Pilates training by learning functional Pilates on both the Mat and Professional Stott Pilates Reformers.

What do I wear for Pilates Classes?
Come in comfortable clothing. Track pants, leggings and t-shirt or a tank are fine. We workout with bare feet or socks. There are change rooms on site.

Should I bring a mat to my Pilates Class?
We supply all mats. All of our equipment is studio grade including our mats and are cleaned after every class. There is no charge to use the studio mats. Please refer to our Safety Plan for all Covid Protocols.

What should I expect when I first arrive at Pilates North?
Expect to be welcomed into the studio. We love meeting new people. With the current pandemic we have a Saftey Plan that will be sent to each new client upon registration. The plan outlines all the enhancements and procedures we have implemented during the pandemic.

What do we do in the first Pilates class?
The first Pilates class focuses on teaching basic principles of the exercise. You will learn to engage your lower abs, breath and listen to verbal cuing. As the Pilates classes continue we will apply these principles to a variety of functional exercises to engage your core, strengthen / lengthen your muscles and a to increase your flexibility.

What if I miss a class?
If you miss a studio class, for whatever reason, you can request a free virtual class (one per fully registered session). Missed classes cannot be carried over to another session. Extra makeups are available on a donation basis.

How long are the Pilates classes?
Classes are 55 minutes. We start promptly and will sometimes run the full hour.

Are these the only times you offer Pilates classes?
We are proud to offer a variety of classes at more intermediate levels. This page only lists our Introductory classes. If you have previous Pilates experience we would be happy to assess you for entry into the more advanced level classes.

I have more questions is there someone I can talk to?
We would be happy to answer any questions you have. Feel free to give us a call, or email for my information. Phone: 905-882-1442 email: info@pilatesnorth.com

Class Policies

We ask that you carefully consider our class policies before registering for a class as they are firm and will not change. We are up front about all policies and hope to attract committed Pilates/Fitness enthusiasts who are looking for structure and accountability in their workout. We have spent the last 23 years developing a systematic and progressive approach to Pilates training that is unique to Pilates North. We are committed to seeing our clients improve their bodies and health and we expect the same consistency and quality effort from our clients.

Covid Safety Protocols
Pilates North has implemented numerous changes to our policies and our physical space in order to assist in a safe studio experience for everyone. Our policies and protocols will be adjusted from time to time as required to comply with government mandates/restrictions. Safety Plan

Late Registration
Essential/intermediate/Advanced Classes that are not full after the second week of class will only accept clients on a pro-rated basis with an instructor’s approval. Introductory Classes will not accept late registration.

Missed Classes
If you miss a class, for whatever reason, you may request a free virtual mat class (one per registered class). Missed classes cannot be carried over to another session. Extra makeups are available on a donation basis. Space provided, you may sign up for additional classes once you have donated a min of $5.00 to the MS Society of Canada.

4-Week Trial Classes
There are no make up classes, refunds or credits provided for missed classes.

Refunds
Course cancellations received at least 5 working days prior to the class start date will receive a refund less $50.00 administration fee. Cancellations after this point will be charged in full.

Clothing etc
Wear comfortable clothes such as T-shirts with long shorts, bike shorts, tights or leggings. Clients should be barefoot or wear socks in class. Cell phones and pagers must be turned off and put away in your purse. No cameras, video/tape recorders are permitted.

No Scent Policy
In consideration of those with environmental sensitivities, allergies and chronic migraines etc, we ask that all visitors and clients refrain from using heavily scented detergents such as GAIN/TIDE, perfumes, body lotions or hair sprays/products. In the event that a scent is causing a client or trainer discomfort, the client will be asked to leave the studio immediately.

Daycare
As cute as they are, children can be a distraction to parents, trainers & clients. For this reason, they are prohibited from entering ongoing classes. In emergency situations and upon the studio’s written approval, children over the age of 12 may be permitted to wait in a designated waiting area of the facility while a class is underway.

Weather/Emergency Cancellations
If classes are cancelled due to inclement weather or other emergencies, there will be a general message on the main line at least two hours before the class is scheduled to begin. Cancelled classes can be made up by signing up for an additional makeup class in the current session.

Holidays
The Studio recognizes all statutory holidays. No classes will be held on these days, unless specifically announced.

Injuries/Physical Limitations
We are here to help our clients feel better. In order to do this, we require full disclosure on previous/current injuries or illness. Understanding why you have come to us and how you are feeling will help our trainers provide you with more effective instruction and advice. Undisclosed physical limitations or medical conditions could result in removal from the class without refund. While pregnancy is a wonderful time, Pilates classes would not be suitable for most women past their second trimester. If you are pregnant or are planning on becoming pregnant give us a call before you register for classes. We can have a discussion on what forms of training are available.

Reception Hours
We are staffed in our reception area during the following hours: Monday–Thursday 9am-12pm and 6:00pm-9:00pm; Friday-Sunday 9am-12 pm; (Special hours held for workshops)
